Chinese Moon Rover

Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) at Shenyang Institute of Automation announced a major development milestone on the Chinese Moon Roving Vehicle Project on March 8th 2007. The “Preparation Study” of all essential technology elements on the moon rover had successfully passed the inspection by a group of Chinese space experts.

The Moom Roving Vehicle is a part of Chang'e Moon Probing Project. This robot is equipped with a camera, a telescope and seismological devices to monitor quake activities on the moon.
Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) had planned 3 stages for the Chang'e Project:

  • orbiting the Moon in 2006
  • landing an unmanned rover on the Moon in 2010 or 2012
  • returning lunar soil and rock samples from the Moon around 2015

The rover's main purpose is to explore the lunar surface to find a suitable location for a base on the moon. Click here to read more on China's space program.
